Savor Healdsburg Food Tour Is Perfect For The Traveling Gourmet Eater!

One of our favorite things to do while we’re traveling is find out what other food tours are doing in their own towns! We call it Research & Development, but really it’s just a whole bunch of fun!

We were recently up in Healdsburg, a small town just an hour’s drive north of San Francisco, that’s known for the finer things in life: food, wine, friends, and fun.

We spent most of our trip getting soaked in the rain, but thankfully, the skies opened up and the sun came out for our Savor Healdsburg Food Tour!

SHED in Healdsburg CA

Our first stop brought us to Healdsburg SHED, a “modern day grange” that highlights some of the best of Sonoma County’s artisans, farmers, winemakers and culinary experts. Inside, you’ll find a cafe, coffee bar and fermentation bar.

From the cafe, we tried a variety of different menu items like a potato and green bean salad, carrot humus, and beet tzatziki. Best part? All the food the SHED serves is grown within a 10-mile radius of their kitchen!

Farm to Table in Healdsburg We also got to taste some shrubs from the fermentation bar. What’s a shrub? It’s an old-fashioned refresher made with vinegar, fresh herbs and seasonal fruit (we tasted the grape). If you like kombucha, you’ll love the shrub!

Our next stop opened our eyes to the complex flavors of Portugal and left us wanting more.

We fell in love with Cafe Lucia’s chourico crusted day boat scallops, pan seared with Japanese sweet potato puree, leek confit and molho cru. Pair it with a glass of “green wine” or vino verde and it’s like a party in your mouth.

After Cafe Lucia, we thought, “Nothing can beat that!”

Wine. Wine can beat that. And Gustafson Family Vineyard wines did.

Feeling good and starting to get full, we stumbled over to Bravas Bar De Tapas. Offering traditional and modern tapas-style dining, they’ve been named one of the top 20 tapas restaurants in the U.S. by Travel and Leisure magazine, and now we know why.

Patatas Bravas Healdsburg CAStarting off with the choice of a red, white or cava (sparkling wine) sangria, we were graced with the presence of a goat cheese toast topped with golden onions and white truffle honey (YUM!), creamy chicken, ham and gruyere cheese croquetas, and patatas braves served with a spicy tomato sauce and garlic aioli. Drool.

Just when we thought things couldn’t get any better, we found ourselves staring at rows of cupcakes and other baked goods just down the street.

While we wish we could have tried everything, we settled for The Butcher, a vanilla cupcake with maple spice frosting, topped with a piece of crispy local bacon.

Moustache Bakery CupcakesMoustache Baked Goods was the perfect and sweetest way (see what we did there?) to end our culinary adventure with Savor Healdsburg and our guide, Tammy, who is a local resident and the owner! If you’re all about those gourmet bites, this tour will show you all of that and more.Moustache Cupcakes Healdsburg CA
